The Master of Mitochondria

Take Two Motrin and Get the Hell Out

Fri Jun 27, 2008, 10:14 PM
So, my family doctor is a very nice man and a pretty decent physician (if not a bit overzealous with the prescriptions), but going to see him is an all-day affair. He's extremely gregarious and overbooks himself, so you're guaranteed that if you have an appointment at 2pm, you won't be seeing him until 5pm. Or possibly 7pm. Or 8pm.

Because of this, I still go to my pediatrician even though I'm almost 20-- a trip in and out of there is about 45 minutes if you're unlucky. I'll probably be in grad school before I "graduate" to a real doctor. However, the issue with this is that I don't always actually see my own doctor, but rather I see whoever's on-- and usually this isn't an issue, but there's one doctor there who can only be described as a crotchety old man, and seeing him is never pleasant.

So I had to go to the doctor about three days ago, and that's part of the reason no new art's been posted recently. You see, my mom was recently diagnosed by the aforementioned family doctor with "untreated strep that moved to her spleen," and while she's fine now (antibiotics will do that for ya) she had been having very strange symptoms beforehand, I.E., she was nauseated for one day, had a fever one day, was weirdly tired, had strange spasms in her side, weird joint pain, etc-- and about five days ago I felt really, really weirdly nauseated, and then the next day my hands started to feel kind of strange, and then the next day all my joints were hurting really badly, so I went to the doctor.

And to my great chagrin, it was the crotchety doctor. So I explained my symptoms and the fact that my mom had had ther exact same symptoms and been treated and was now fine, and he more or less told me that I was crazy and that I should suck it up. I was like, "Um, but what if I have a contagious disease?" And he pretty much said to take some Motrin and get my ass out of there. Since I was a small child I remember him trying to get me to take Motrin for everything; I believe he's been paid off by the company. He also hates prescribing anything, which, y'know, is really a great idea for a man who works with small children, who, y'know, have (a) such a high tolerance for pain and (b) are so good at keeping germs to themselves.

So anyway, I've been popping Motrin like Pez to keep from feeling like an arthritic old woman, and my up until today my hands have been feeling too painful and claw-like to do much of anything productive, and I still don't think drawing would be too brilliant of an idea at this moment.

*cough* Luckily, I do have an extremely high pain tolerance, so I've been able to do everything else pretty much normally (although walking up and down stairs doesn't feel too good), and if by the end of this weekend I'm still feeling like a little old lady I plan on going back to the doctor and demanding some goddamned augmentin.

Furthermore, in a week and two hours (yes, at 3am) I'll be going to the Dominican Republic for vacation for a week, so if you crazy folks don't hear anything from me for a while, I promise I haven't died, I'm just y'know, claw-handed and without internet.

Hopefully not at the same time.

That doctor sounds really odd. But then the one you mentioned later on sounds really jerkish.

Also, Dominican Republic! Hope you have fun! If I remember, I think it's located near Cuba, right?

They're like total opposites, it's really funny. The family doctor is like "You feel icky? I HAS *PILLS* for that!" whereas the other guy is like "You want pills? Suck it up, whiner."

And I think it is near Cuba... XD I should know since I'm going, but my grandmother plans all of our family trips and I know very little about South America.

xDD Odd.

Also, yes, beware there! You must know Spanish! And beaches! Beautiful beaches! ;D

I know about beaches... but my Spanish ends at words like... "cacahuate" and, um, "toalla" and... "abuela." And "azul." So if someone needs to talk about their blue grandmother peanut towel, we're good.

(What? I took French in highschool and Japanese in college. The Latin language you really need to know in Massachusetts is Portuguese anyway.)
